On November 14, 2011 the Federal Aviation Administration (“FAA”) announced a request for comments. The FAA invites public comments about its intention to request the approval of the Office of Management and Budget (“OMB”) to renew an information collection regarding financial responsibility requirements for licensed reentry activities.
After examining the risk associated with a reentry vehicle, its operational capabilities, and its designated reentry site, the information collection assists FAA in determining the amount of required liability insurance for a reentry operator. This collection is applicable in concurrence with a request for conducting commercial reentry operations as prescribed in the Commercial Space Transportation Reusable Launch Vehicle and Reentry Licensing Regulations. A commercial space launch services provider must complete the Reusable Launch Vehicle and Reentry Licensing Regulation in order to gain authorization for conducting reentry activities.
You are asked to comment on any aspect of this information collection, including (a) whether the proposed collection of information is necessary for FAA’s performance; (b) the accuracy of the estimated burden; (c) ways for FAA to enhance the quality, utility and clarity of the information collection; and (d) ways that the burden could be minimized without reducing the quality of the collected information. The agency will summarize and/or include your comments in the request for OMB’s clearance of this information collection.
